Each month, we will be bringing you our top picks of seasonal ingredients, our wine recommendations and important dates for your calendar.

Love Lamb Week 1-7th Sep

The aim of Love Lamb Week is to spread a message of seasonality and sustainability, two things very close to our hearts here at Ellis Wines. Therefore, we suggest upland-reared lamb with one of our organic, biodynamic or sustainable wines. Try our biodynamic claret, Châteaux Peybonhomme or Laibach’s excellent organic Ladybird Red Bordeaux blend with roast Lamb. With a shepherd’s pie a smooth and fruity offering like Châteaux Fabre’s wonderful organic Corbières would go down a treat.

Wild Mushrooms

Wild mushrooms are highly versatile ingredients and can really harmonise with a judicious wine pairing. Risotto or other creamy dishes can be matched with a white Burgundy or quality Soave; we recommend Domaine Luquet’s Macon Villages `Clos Condemine` or Balestri Valda’s exquisite Vigneto Sengialta Soave. ‘Meatier’ mushroom dishes can handle a more powerful red such as Susanna Crociani’s Rosso di Montepulciano or if the earthy mushroom flavours are to the fore, a Pinot Noir or a wine with some bottle age would fit the bill such as Bodegas Taron’s Rioja Reserva 2008.

Pears & Blackberries

Autumn is in the air and the warming comfort of a dessert like poached pears is just what is required. Pair this with our Chateau Ramon Monbazillac or Chateau Eyssards Saussignac `Cuvée Flavie`. Similarly blackberries are ripening now and can be matched very well with a sweet Muscat or of course the red fruitiness of a good Port. In the former category, try the Muscat de Rivesaltes` Château L`Esparrou or Mira la Mar’s stunning Moscatel with a blackberry and apple tart or pie while in the latter, Taylor’s LBV is classic with a chocolate and blackberry pudding.

Harvest

Some of our winemakers are busy beginning their harvests to produce more of the fantastic wines from our portfolio. Check out some of their Instagram posts below.
