Region

This beautiful region is situated 200Km south of Paris and extends west along the high reaches of the Loire River. This is a cold climate region making top quality wines from Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir and includes the following famous villages; Sancerre, Pouilly Sur Loire, Quincy and Menetou-Salon. The soils have a high percentage of flint and limestone, and this results in crisp, aromatic whites and perfumed, elegant rose and reds. Littered with artisan producers, the best single Domaine wines are made in small quantities and are of top quality.

Producer

This is a small family estate of around 13 hectares, planted with Sauvignon Blanc on the finest sites of Bué and the celebrated Chene Marchand vineyard. The estate also includes a small plot of Pinot Noir. With a focus on better understanding and less intervention in viticulture, they are able to ensure the preservation of their vineyards and auxiliary fauna. They are certified sustainable with a strong desire to be environmentally responsible. They use experience from previous generations but also always looking to use new approaches, enjoying shared knowledge and support with fellow winegrowers.
Tasting Notes
Thierry Merlin-Cherrier owns 11 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc in the village of Bue, one of the principal hamlets surrounding the old walled town of Sancerre. These soils have a high chalk content and as a result this Sancerre is distinguished by its perfume of citrus and minerals. A pale-yellow colour on appearance, with aromas of lemon and tangerine which, with some aeration, can open up into more tropical and coulis characters. The palate reflects similar characters with chalky richness from the lees ageing and long zesty and mineral finish. True finesse and intensity for an elegant wine.
Food
Perfect with seafood, especially scallops and shellfish but also goats cheese.
