Region

The Vinho Regional Lisboa (previously known as Estremadura) extends north and west of Lisbon, following the rugged Atlantic coastline. The windswept rolling landscape is dotted with old windmills and modern wind turbines overseeing vineyards and pine forest. It is Portugal`s third largest wine producing region in volume terms, but arguably the source of the country`s best value table wines. Most of the region enjoys a maritime climate that allows production of fresh whites and balanced red wines. The last ten years have seen a surge of ambitious small growers making far more interesting wines across a wide selection of grape varietals.

Producer

DFJ Vinhos is one of Portugal`s most innovative and highly awarded wine producers winning best Portuguese producer in both the New York International Competition and Berliner Wine competition in 2018. We control estates in the Lisboa, Douro, Setubal, Alentejo and Tejo wine regions and work with 22 different grape varieties. The company is headed by Portugal’s top winemaker, José Neiva. In the past José worked with some of Portugal`s largest wineries and was one of the world`s most productive winemakers. He has now been leading the way for over 40 years and, at the recent “Portuguese Wine Oscars", he was made "Senhor do Vinho" - the highest accolade for an outstanding career.
Tasting Notes
An intriguing blend that combines Portugal`s finest red variety, Touriga Nacional, with the elegant and fragrant Pinot Noir selected from the Quinta de Porto Franco on the Atlantic coast north of Lisbon. It is a deep ruby colour, showing intense and complex red fruit aromas. The palate is full bodied with extremely concentrated fruit balanced by rich tannins, ripe cassis and summer fruit flavours complemented by dried fruit and spice notes and a hint of vanilla. The finish is dry and extremely persistent.
Food
Serve with grilled meats, lamb or pork casseroles, roast suckling pig, game or strong cheeses.
