Region

Côte Chalonnaise lies between the Cote de Beaune to the north and the Mâconnais to the south. Côte Chalonnaise is made up of five communes, from north to south these are Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey, Givry and Montagny. The Mâconnais is centred around the town of Mâcon and has a warmer climate which is largely due to the hilly topography which leads to lower levels of rainfall but also due to its position south of the Cote d`Or, both of which help ripening conditions in the vineyards and give the richer style found in the Cote Chalonnaise. As is the case across Burgundy, the presence of limestone in the Chalonnaise is vital. The increased minerality it creates in the wines is highly valued and the best vineyard plots are often those with a high content of limestone.

Producer

Domaine des Moirots is a family property situated in the village of Bissey-sur-Cruchaud that has been producing wine on about 30 acres of south facing vineyards in the Cote Chalonnaise, the region just to the south of the Cote de Beaune, since 1978. Christophe Denizot handles the operation and produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir based wines from his carefully tended vineyards using traditional Burgundian methods allied to modern winemaking techniques to produce fine wines from the healthiest vines. The granite and limestone soils and climate here lends itself to the production of wines of firm acidity and supple minerality.
Tasting Notes
Southern Burgundy and the Cote Chalonnaise in particular, remains the home of Burgundy`s finest Aligoté grapes. In the hands of a talented winemaker, these crisp dry whites can take on added dimensions. An expressive wine with hints of aniseed and fennel on the nose and a soft, creamy palate feel. It has good weight, is richer than much Aligoté, and leaves mineral and zesty finish.
Food
Enjoy chilled as an aperitif or with grilled seafood, goats cheese rocket and herb salads, and vegetable lasagne.
