Region

Saint-Émilion and Pomerol sit next to each other on the right bank of Bordeaux. Saint-Émilion is home to some of the most prestigious wines in the world such as Cheval Blanc and Angelus. Only red wine qualifies for the appellation and is predominately made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Pomerol is located in the east of the Bordeaux region, near Saint-Émilion. While most appellations are named after a village or town within their boundaries, Pomerol has no such epicentre. Pomerol is an 800ha gravel bank with boasts the famous names of Petrus and Le Pin and produces wines made predominantly out of Merlot.

Producer

Château Laroque is a historic estate in Saint-Émilion, dating back to the 12th century, when its imposing tower served as part of a fortified stronghold. Owned by the Beaumartin family, the property encompasses 61 hectares of vineyards, making it the largest wine estate in the appellation. Situated on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, the vineyard features a complex mix of limestone, fine clay and varied hillside soils. Merlot dominates the plantings, complemented by Cabernet Franc, with careful plot-by-plot harvesting and vinification used to capture the nuances of each terroir. Sustainable vineyard management includes naturally grassed soils, cover crops and the preservation of woodland and hedgerows to encourage biodiversity. The estate’s wines are known for their freshness, fine structure and distinctive chalky minerality.
Tasting Notes
This extraordinary wine exhibits very ripe fruit, intense aromas of redcurrant, blackberry and spicy notes. The tannins are silky and combine with a lingering black cherry and coffee finish. It is full bodied and supple on the palate with a gentle touch of oak giving depth and structure.
Food
Will partner roast meats, game, beef Wellington and a great match for a selection of strong cheeses.
