Region
If you have never tried an English wine before – well now is your opportunity. The vineyards of England are generally located in the warmer southern counties where the milder influences of the gulf stream have an important effect, as our northern hemisphere vineyards need a longer cooler growing season than in Europe to produce top quality grapes. More than 500 vineyards are in production across the UK and bottled annual sales has reached 3 million bottles, with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Bacchus the most planted varieties.
Producer
The origins of the house date back as far as 1086, with an entry in the Domesday Book for the Manor of Nyetimber, which means `new timbered house`. The original vineyards extended to some 14 hectares, planted on gentle south-facing slopes of greensand and chalk, with the classic grape varieties of the Champagne region. The climate here allows for the slow ripening of grapes resulting in optimum levels of ripeness and acidity. Using only estate-grown grapes from their own vineyards ensures that only the finest fruit is used to craft globally acclaimed Nyetimber wines. This combined with careful choices of when to harvest and meticulous attention to detail all create quality wines.
Tasting Notes
This is a rich and ripe expression of a single vineyard Pinot Noir dominant blend aged on its lees for 60 months. Pale gold in colour with very fine bubbles. Intense aromas of raspberry, red apple skin and rose petal. The textured palate is both vibrant yet refined, revealing layers of orange zest, raspberry, apricot and marzipan. Opulent fruit and complex biscuit characters persist in a long, mouth watering finish.
Food
Best served with white fish like john dory or halibut.
