Region

If you have never tried an English wine before – well now is your opportunity. The vineyards of England are generally located in the warmer southern counties where the milder influences of the gulf stream have an important effect, as our northern hemisphere vineyards need a longer cooler growing season than in Europe to produce top quality grapes. More than 500 vineyards are in production across the UK and bottled annual sales has reached 3 million bottles, with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Bacchus the most planted varieties.

Producer

Weyborne Estate is a family-owned vineyard nestled in the South Downs of Sussex, where a passion for English sparkling wine has driven its development since the first vines were planted in 2004. Benefiting from a unique combination of chalk, greensand and clay soils, the estate cultivates Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with a strong commitment to sustainable viticulture. Careful vineyard management, biodiversity initiatives and low-intervention practices help preserve the natural environment while enhancing fruit quality. From hand-harvested grapes to meticulous traditional-method winemaking, every stage of production reflects a dedication to craftsmanship, authenticity and exceptional quality.
Tasting Notes
Oriana Brut is a blend of some of Weybornes oldest vines planted in 2004. Produced in the traditional method, with a slightly oxidative fermentation, three percent of the cuvee is in open top barrels, with the rest in steel. The wine spends about 2 years on its lees. Aromas of brioche, hazelnut, orchard fruit and citrus lead to a refined palate of apple, peach and mineral notes, finishing long, fresh and elegantly balanced.
Food
Weyborne Oriana Brut pairs beautifully with fresh seafood, including oysters, scallops and crab.
