Region

The department of Hérault lies to the northeast of the Aude and west of the Gard, centred on the town of Montpellier. Much of the Coteaux du Languedoc falls within this rugged warm region. The terroir on this south-facing amphitheatre is classically Mediterranean, and the landscape is dominated by garrigue-covered limestone hills and plateaus. During the growing season, the temperatures are moderated by refreshing sea breezes from the Mediterranean that sweep through the vineyards, cooling the grapes and slowing ripening. The Hérault is a successful host to the classic Bordeaux varietals as well as Chardonnay and the Rhône`s Syrah, Grenache and Viognier.

Producer

The story begins in 2015 with François who, after studying enology, was the manager of Domaine Enclos de la Croix, in Lansargues (Hérault, South of France) which he converted to organic vine growing, and focused winemaking on no addition of sulphites. Eventually he decided to work in partnership with Languedoc grape growers to obtain the most beautiful grapes and create a range of organic wines. At the time of the harvest, these grapes are bought and then vinified by François in his cellar in Lansargues. The range of wines are all certified organic and are modernly imagined to enhance an ancestral know-how.
Tasting Notes
This wine is a rare offering, made from the grape variety Aramon which has been saved from extinction, and the vines are 60-80 years old. It is a wonderfully bright fresh light red with aromas of juicy red cherry and plum with notes of blackcurrant. Its lovely and expressive on the palate showing intense cherry, strawberry and raspberry with a refreshing acidity and pleasant balance of fruit and smooth fine tannins.
Food
This can pair nicely with some fish dishes as an alternative to white, and lighter meat dishes.
