Region
The fog influenced Napa Valley is home to many of California’s premium wineries. This famous valley around the natural springs of Oakville, includes the thin strip of soil known as the Rutherford Bench where some of the state’s most highly prized vineyards are planted. It is where great Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are grown and sublime Pinot Noirs from the southern Carneros end of the valley.
Producer
Founded in 1981 by Ron and Diane Miller alongside Diane’s mother, Lillian Disney, Silverado Vineyards is one of Napa Valley’s most respected estate wineries, rooted in the renowned Stags Leap District. Drawing on historic vineyard sites first planted in the nineteenth century, the estate crafts wines that express the unique character of Napa’s premier appellations. Sustainability has been central to Silverado’s philosophy since its inception, with all estate vineyards certified sustainable and supported by solar energy, water conservation and biodiversity initiatives. Meticulous vineyard stewardship, estate-grown fruit and precision winemaking ensure wines of exceptional quality, balance and longevity.
Tasting Notes
Located east of Napa in Coombsville, Mt. George Vineyard is the site of one of the first grape plantings in Napa Valley in the 19th century. It climbs the western slopes of an ancient volcano whose name the vineyard bears. This blend is aged in a mixture of French and Hungarian oak for 19 months 50% of which is new oak. an expressive nose filled with aromas of red and dried cherry, ripe red plum, and sweet pluot, accented by delicate notes of powdery vanilla and Jordan almond. On the palate, this refined wine unfurls with vibrant layers of red currant and juicy cherry, beautifully complemented by decadent undertones of hazelnut pastry and candied anise. A well-structured, toasty framework carries these flavors into a long, elegant finish highlighted by a dust of cocoa powder
