Region

The fog influenced Napa Valley is home to many of California’s premium wineries. This famous valley around the natural springs of Oakville, includes the thin strip of soil known as the Rutherford Bench where some of the state’s most highly prized vineyards are planted. It is where great Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are grown and sublime Pinot Noirs from the southern Carneros end of the valley.

Producer

Founded in 1981 by Ron and Diane Miller alongside Diane’s mother, Lillian Disney, Silverado Vineyards is one of Napa Valley’s most respected estate wineries, rooted in the renowned Stags Leap District. Drawing on historic vineyard sites first planted in the nineteenth century, the estate crafts wines that express the unique character of Napa’s premier appellations. Sustainability has been central to Silverado’s philosophy since its inception, with all estate vineyards certified sustainable and supported by solar energy, water conservation and biodiversity initiatives. Meticulous vineyard stewardship, estate-grown fruit and precision winemaking ensure wines of exceptional quality, balance and longevity.
Tasting Notes
The estate Cabernet Sauvignon is made from two different plots in napa, the Silverado Vineyard planted in 1968 in Stags Leap district, and the Mt. George vineyard in Coombsville, in the east of the valley. There are a couple of different soil types across the estate which help give complexity to the blend, including gravel and volcanic soils which give depth to the wine. The wines are matured in a mix of French and Hungarian barrels for 17 months, 40% of which is new oak. concentrated aromas of blackberry and black cherry fill the nose. The palate is full-bodied with abundant dark fruit characters accented by dried herbs, vanilla and spice. This wine is elegantly structured with lingering notes of toasted oak on the finish
Food
This wine will pair well with fine cuts of steak, game and braised meats.
