Region
Alentejo is a hot, dry region which covers approximately a third of the country. Wines are sold under Alentejo DOC or the more widely used Vinho Regional Alentejano designation. The region is named for its position south of the Tejo river, which cuts through Portugal, entering the ocean near Lisbon.
Producer
Cas’Amaro are an organic producer, who make artisanal wines across their five agricultural estates in the following Portuguese wine regions. Vinho Verde, Douro, Dão, Alentejo and Lisboa cultivating a total of 62ha across these estates. Their first and main site in Lisboa is situated 12km from the coast and 40 minutes from Lisbon. Their philosophy is to work in harmony with nature and in each region employing a minimal intervention approach, develop and encourage biodiverse local ecostystems and work entirely with indigenous grape varieties, out of respect for Portuguese traditions. Outside of producing fantastic wines, they are very dedicated to giving back to their local community, employing exclusively nearby to help local families, organizing free activities for local schools, day centers, associations and nursing homes. Their project also is passionate about architecture, art and wine tourism, where they are happy to welcome anyone!
Tasting Notes
The Duas Osgas (two geckos), named after the friendly faces often seen around the vineyard, is a fantastic blend of native varieties Aragonez, Castelão and Trincadeira grown in Alentejo. Deep ruby in colour, with brilliant aromas of fresh red fruits and some subtle vegetal nuances. The wine is made in steel to focus on the bright fresh fruit, resulting in a very elegant palate with warming forest fruits and dark plums balanced with fresh acidity and velvety smooth tannins.
Food
Serve with barbecued or roasted meats or any winter warming dishes.
