Region

The Alicante wine region is located in the Valencia region in eastern Spain. It is situated in the southeast corner of the country, bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Alicante is also the name of the province south of Valencia city, and along with the designation, derives its name from the historic port city of Alicante. The region`s reputation as a mass producer of vineyards with high yields is slowly changing. As more elegant and fresh wines (particularly red blends) and promising red varietal wines emerge from entrepreneurial winemakers, the pressure on other producers to modernize increases, as do quality and respect.

Producer

Bodegas Pinoso is based in the Alicante region of Spain. They are a co-operative who were founded in 1932 to unite local family winegrowers, pooling their tools and experience to create great wines that represent the region. In the late 90’s the winery shifted towards enhancing the towns environmental stewardship, emphasising sustainable practices, committing to support young farmers to convert to organic farming, increase biodiversity and eliminate all pesticide use. By 2010 1200 ha of vine were certified organic and this continues to grow. The winery also encourage the use of more traditional local varieties such as Garnacha Tintorera, Monastrell, Moscatel and Airen.
Tasting Notes
A single varietal Monastrell, from old vines and hand harvested. This is a direct press style of rose, with a pale appearance. Expressive on the nose, aromas of strawberries, raspberries and soft juicy white peaches. The palate is fresh, elegant and has good intensity, with a long and crisp finish.
Food
A versatile wine that can be served as an aperitif, but also with grilled shrimp, octopus or gazpacho.
