Region

A spectacular landscape and sophisticated tourist culture also home to some of the world`s best Pinot Noir, not to mention impressive, vivid white wines. Main sub-regions lie within close reach, but the distinctive mountainous terrain means each occupies a unique microclimate. Soils can vary considerably within each sub-region though a stony free draining base is common to all. The world`s southernmost wine region and the country`s highest, in this semi-continental climate, with dry autumns and low humidity ensuring amazing purity and complexity.

Producer

Cloudy Bay Vineyards was established in 1985 by Cape Mentelle Vineyards in Western Australia, and is today part of Estates & Wines, The Moët Hennessy Wine Division. The winery and vineyards are situated in the Wairau Valley in Marlborough at the northern end of New Zealand`s South Island. The winery is named after the bay at the eastern extreme of the Wairau Valley, named so by Captain Cook on his voyage to New Zealand in 1770. Cloudy Bay has 250 hectares over four estate vineyards, and long-term supply agreements with nine Wairau Valley growers. The main varieties grown are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with lesser quantities of Gewurztraminer, Riesling, and Pinot Gris.
Tasting Notes
Bright and expressive, this Central Otago Pinot Noir shows enticing aromas of red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, with subtle floral, earthy and spicy notes. The palate is fresh and elegant, combining vibrant red-fruit flavours with silky tannins and a fine mineral character. Gentle oak and savoury nuances add depth without masking the purity of the fruit, while lively acidity carries the wine to a long, refined finish. A beautifully poised Pinot Noir with both freshness and complexity.
Food
Will pair well with roast duck, lamb, chicken or pork. As well as mushroom risotto.
