Region

The Alsace region is a thin strip of steep hillside vineyards is located in northeast France. It is protected by the Vosges mountains to the west, Alsace is the driest region of France, a factor that compensates for the northerly location. Its wines were the first single varietals in France to be honoured with Appellation Controllée status 70 or more years ago. They are wines recognised for their rich aromatics and distinct character and are an ideal accompaniment with food

Producer

J-B Adam is one of the oldest estates in Alsace, with 19 ha of organic vineyard in the Haut Rhin village of Ammerschwir. The granite slopes of Grand Cru ‘Kaefferkopf’ provide the backdrop to the village and produce the estate’s unforgettable wines. 400 years on, J-B Adam remains in safe family hands, guided by the 14th generation of Adams, Jean-Baptiste and his daughters Laure, Pauline and Marie. Their progressive stewardship has seen the introduction of biodynamic principals and a ‘non-interventionist’ regime in the cellar (a natural process of slow pressing, wild fermentations and no filtration) that ensures wonderfully expressive, clean and complex wines.
Tasting Notes
Riesling from the chalk and granite soils of the Haut Rhin is considered amongst the greatest gastronomic wines. A delicate, pale yellow in colour with subtle green hues. This wine boasts an evocative bouquet, floral with lime zest and white flowers, gives way to a refined palate which is both lively with grapefruit and mineral nuances that linger on the finish and are balanced by a refreshing acidity.
Food
A perfect match for Asian cuisine, smoked fish, oysters or grilled squid as well as traditional Alsace choucroute and strong blue cheeses.
