Region

The Vinho Regional Lisboa (previously known as Estremadura) extends north and west of Lisbon, following the rugged Atlantic coastline. It is Portugal`s third largest wine producing region in volume terms, but arguably the source of the country`s best value table wines. Most of the region enjoys a maritime climate that allows production of fresh whites and balanced red wines. The last ten years have seen a surge of ambitious small growers making far more interesting wines across a wide selection of grape varietals.

Producer

Cas’Amaro are an organic producer, who make artisanal wines across their five agricultural estates in the following Portuguese wine regions. Vinho Verde, Douro, Dão, Alentejo and Lisboa cultivating a total of 62ha across these estates. Their first and main site in Lisboa is situated 12km from the coast and 40 minutes from Lisbon. Their philosophy is to work in harmony with nature and in each region employing a minimal intervention approach, develop and encourage biodiverse local ecostystems and work entirely with indigenous grape varieties, out of respect for Portuguese traditions. Outside of producing fantastic wines, they are very dedicated to giving back to their local community, employing exclusively nearby to help local families, organizing free activities for local schools, day centers, associations and nursing homes. Their project also is passionate about architecture, art and wine tourism, where they are happy to welcome anyone!
Tasting Notes
This is a very fun single varietal based Pet Nat made from Sercial. After pressing the juice has 2 days of contact with the skins before separating, fermentation is spontaneous, and is only partial, the wine is then bottled so a second fermentation occurs creating natural carbonation in the bottle, which remains unfined or filtered. A hazy appearance with grapefruit, pineapple and orange blossom aromatics, a smooth but lively mouthfeel and the acidity gives an elegant, fresh finish.
Food
Serves perfectly as an aperitif and also with prawn, anchovy and fish starters.
