Region

If you have never tried an English wine before – well now is your opportunity. The vineyards of England are generally located in the warmer southern counties where the milder influences of the gulf stream have an important effect, as our northern hemisphere vineyards need a longer cooler growing season than in Europe to produce top quality grapes. More than 500 vineyards are in production across the UK and bottled annual sales has reached 3 million bottles, with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Bacchus the most planted varieties.

Producer

Established in 1989 in the heart of the Cornish countryside by ex-RAF pilot Bob Lindo and his wife Annie. Bob embarked as winemaker at Camel Valley and in 2005 won the International Wine Challenge Gold Medal for their Sparkling wine. Their son Sam then took over as winemaker (with a little help from Dad now and again) and in 2007 won UK Winemaker of the Year. In 2023 they were the headline wine at a state banquet and were later given Royal Warrants in 2024. Camel Valley were a founding member of Sustainable Wines of Great Britain with the aim to promote soil health, manage emmisions and water use, implement more environmentally friendly practices and ensure that the English wine production will continue for generations to come.
Tasting Notes
This is Camel Valleys flagship reserve brut, which is made using free run and first press juice, ageing sur latte for 18 months. Characteristic aromas of golden apples, lemons, peach and white flowers, with toasty, cashew nuts and lemon tart flavours. This is a complex and rich sparkling wine with a creamy mousse and intense long finish.
Food
The perfect wine for a celebration, the Cornwall Brut is also a fine match for a range of canapes, as well as more substantial dishes such as smoked fish, lobster, or chicken and tarragon pie.
