Region

If you have never tried an English wine before – well now is your opportunity. The vineyards of England are generally located in the warmer southern counties where the milder influences of the gulf stream have an important effect, as our northern hemisphere vineyards need a longer cooler growing season than in Europe to produce top quality grapes. More than 500 vineyards are in production across the UK and bottled annual sales has reached 3 million bottles, with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Bacchus the most planted varieties.

Producer

Pommery & Greno was established in 1836, based in Reims, but it was the highly entrepreneurial Jeanne-Alexandrine Louise Pommery, who in 1858 took over the running of the business after the unexpected death of her husband, that made sure the Pommery name and reputation was internationally recognised. Madame Pommery launched the first commercially successful `Brut` Champagne in history `Pommery Brut Nature 1874’, at a time when champagne was excessively sweetened with sugar.
Tasting Notes
Louis Pommery English Brut brings the celebrated Pommery style to the English terroir, crafted from grapes grown in the cool-climate vineyards of southern England. Pale gold in colour, it combines delicate aromas of green apple, pear and citrus with subtle floral and brioche notes. The palate is fresh and finely balanced, with lively acidity, a creamy mousse and a crisp, mineral finish.
Food
Good as an aperitif or alongside seafood, shellfish and delicate canapés.
