Region
Saint-Émilion and Pomerol sit next to each other on the right bank of Bordeaux. Saint-Émilion is home to some of the most prestigious wines in the world such as Cheval Blanc and Angelus. Only red wine qualifies for the appellation and is predominately made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Pomerol is located in the east of the Bordeaux region, near Saint-Émilion. While most appellations are named after a village or town within their boundaries, Pomerol has no such epicentre. Pomerol is an 800ha gravel bank with boasts the famous names of Petrus and Le Pin and produces wines made predominantly out of Merlot.
Producer
Château des Moines has been a family business for several generations and has constantly grown and developed to reach its present size of 20 hectares, 1.3 hectares of which bear the Bordeaux appellation. Traditional vineyard practises, such as ploughing and inter-row grassing, are combined with modern wine-making tools such as temperature control equipment and a pneumatic press to ensure that Château des Moines offers wines of great finesse. As of 2020 the Château achieved the HEV3 certificate which is the highest award for sustainability in the Bordeaux region.
Tasting Notes
An attractive intense garnet colour with brilliant reflections. Powerful and well-balanced, this harmonious wine develops fine aromas of cherry and candied red fruits. The palate is as rich as the nose, it offers red fruits in abundance with a soft plummy character and supple tannins.
Food
Ideal with roast beef, veal and game as well as mature cheeses.
