Region
Côte d’Or stretches from Dijon in the north to Santenay in the south, via Beaune. The wines produced here are more complex, more expensive and more lasting than elsewhere in Burgundy. They come from famous villages such as Vosne Romanee, Pommard, Volnay, Meursault and Puligny Montrachet. The region is divided into two parts, Côte de Nuits to the north and Cote de Beaune to the south. The first produces almost exclusively red wines, the second both red and whites. Cote d’Or takes its name from the Orient; the vines face east to make the most of limited sunlight.
Producer
Jean Claude Prior acquired a vineyard holding in Santenay and established his Domaine in 1804. In 1955, descendant Guy Prior, married Elisabeth Brunet of Meursault whos family vineyard was consolidated within the estate. The current vineyard holding of over 20 hectares is spread across the six major wine-producing villages of the Côte de Beaune, and allows a wide diversity of high quality wines.
Tasting Notes
Maladiere is a speciality of the Domaine Prieur Brunet, from a small plot, well positioned at the heart of the Santenay vineyards. A pale ruby colour yet richly fragrant cherry and violet scented Pinot Noir that captures a lively palate of pure red fruits with the enhancement of youthful acidity and subtle vanilla character.
Food
Will accompany grilled or raost lamb, duck or goose as well as a variety of white meats and mild cheeses.
