Region

Dão is one of the oldest established wine regions of Portugal, located just south of the famous Douro Valley. The mountainous region is home to Touriga Nacional, the principle variety of port wine. The region takes its name from the Dão river, a tributary of the larger Mondego river. The majority of the region`s vineyards are located alongside the Dão river. Known for its fresh wines with powerful fruit, with elegant structure and body that can be enjoyed in youth and yet have an excellent potential for ageing.

Producer

Cas’Amaro are an organic producer, who make artisanal wines across their five agricultural estates in the following Portuguese wine regions. Vinho Verde, Douro, Dão, Alentejo and Lisboa cultivating a total of 62ha across these estates. Their first and main site in Lisboa is situated 12km from the coast and 40 minutes from Lisbon. Their philosophy is to work in harmony with nature and in each region employing a minimal intervention approach, develop and encourage biodiverse local ecostystems and work entirely with indigenous grape varieties, out of respect for Portuguese traditions. Outside of producing fantastic wines, they are very dedicated to giving back to their local community, employing exclusively nearby to help local families, organizing free activities for local schools, day centers, associations and nursing homes. Their project also is passionate about architecture, art and wine tourism, where they are happy to welcome anyone!
Tasting Notes
A single varietal Jaen (also known as Mencia in Galicia) from the warmer Dao region. All fruit is handpicked with fermentation in steel to maintain fresh fruit characteristics, with gentle pump overs for a lighter extraction and the wine is aged on lees for 8 months. Aromatics and flavours or red fruits, cherries, plums and a distinctive earthy, metalic minerality. There is a richness on the palate, and fresh acidity with a long finish.
Food
Perfect with poultry dishes, roasted sardines and grilled meats.
