Region

Touraine, as a region, includes the spectrum of wines from fresh, well defined varietal Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay and Malbec to Vouvray. It offers dry, sweet and sparkling white wines made from Chenin Blanc and the regions of Chinon and Bourgueil for red and rosé. The red wines of Touraine are largely produced from Cabernet Franc. Recent warm vintages and improved viticultural practices have resulted in many surprisingly concentrated yet supple red wines.

Producer

Domaine Fabrice Gasnier is located in the Centre Val de Loire in Cravant-les-Côteaux, a village known for the quality of its wines from the Chinon appellation. For 5 generations, members of this family have succeeded each other, bringing many changes that have shaped the image of the Domaine and allowed it to develop. Aware of their surrounding environment, Sandrine and Fabrice became interested in organic and biodynamic farming in 1998. In 2000, the Estate became fully organic. The 35-hectare vineyard, spread over 40 plots, extends mainly over clay and limestone soils. The estate’s grape variety represents 90% Cabernet Franc and 10% Chenin. The family’s desire is to highlight the most beautiful characteristics of these two emblematic varieties.
Tasting Notes
A delightful and expressive white made with 100% Chenin Blanc, planted in soils of mainly chalk and gravel on high terraces. The wine is made using indigenous yeast to best express local terroir and then the wine spends time on lees to give a lovely rounded mouthfeel. Aromas of apple, pear and Mirabelle plum followed by flavours of young energetic fruit with a delightful elegant minerality.
Food
This dry Chenin pairs well with scallop carpaccio, shrimp tartare with lemongrass and ginger, vegetable terrine as well as white fish or meat.
