Region
The biggest and most important of Argentina`s wine regions, Mendoza includes a wide variety of altitudes and micro-climates to allow a huge range of wine styles. The main vineyard area is at the base of the Andes in the valley of the Mendoza River, with vineyards ranging from 500-1500 metres above sea level. Many early winemakers were of Italian origin and brought with them their native Barbera, Bonarda and Sangiovese. However, it is Malbec, originally from Bordeaux and the southwest of France, that has established the most successful presence in Mendoza.
Producer
Founded in 1991, with the vision of the unique potential in Mendoza, Terrazas de los Andes looked for the ideal terroir around the high-altitude terraces and cool climate within Mendoza. They acquired La Perla, a century old winery, located in Peredriel, Lujan de Cuyo and modernised the winery, with sustainable equipment. After several years dedicated to transforming the vineyards, they released their fist vintage in 1996, it embodied the modern and elegant style that has continued to the day. They continued to purchase vineyards in Mendoza’s most prestigious appellations like the Uco Valley’s El Espinillo vineyard at 1650 meters above sea level, which is the 2nd highest in Mendoza. The company value sustainability, all 500ha are farmed regeneratively and organically, irrigated with local glacier water, they have recently reduced their carbon footprint by 24%.
Tasting Notes
Bright and expressive, with aromas of ripe yellow peach and pear complemented by grapefruit, candied citrus peel and subtle white honey. The palate is fresh and beautifully balanced, combining vibrant pear and citrus fruit with a rounded, creamy texture. Gentle oak and lees ageing add layers of brioche and toast without overpowering the fruit, while the high-altitude Uco Valley vineyards bring a distinctive mineral freshness. A full-bodied yet elegant Chardonnay with excellent length and a smooth, lingering finish.
Food
Pairs best with shellfish, roast chicken, lobster and risottos.
