Region

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county`s relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken. Sonoma Valley is located in the county`s southeastern corner, and effectively mirrors the shape and orientation of Napa Valley just across the Mayacamas Mountains. It encompasses Bennett Valley, Sonoma Mountain and the western half of Carneros – arguably California`s finest "cool-climate" terroir. The Sonoma Valley climate is famously blessed with cooling fog, which rolls in from San Pablo Bay in the summer months. When combined with cooling ocean breezes, this means that Sonoma Valley is sufficiently cool yet sufficiently sunny to create wines which are elegant, bright and intensley flavoured.

Producer

Banshee was born in 2009 at a bar in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco as a friends and family venture to make affordable but top quality wines from Sonoma. They started off with 8 barrels of Pinot Noir and now have their own estate in based in Alexander Valley and with vineyard sites spread throughout the Sonoma Coastal area with some prestigious vineyards in the Russian River Valley.
Tasting Notes
A selection from small vineyards across Sonoma county. This Cabernet dominant blend undergoes a long fermentation with gentle pumpovers, then pressed and transferred into barrels for malolactic and maturation for 14 months (25% new). Deep in colour, with aromas and flavours of baked plum pie, black currents, violets, cedar and vanilla. The palate is filled with rich, soft tannins and a smooth finish.
Food
The perfect pairing with grilled beef short ribs, steaks, or a juicy burger.
