Region

Margaret River is Western Australia`s premier and fashionable vineyard region. Situated along the coast three hours south of Perth, this picturesque region is exposed to the effects of the Indian Ocean currents. Margaret River is renowned for producing Australia`s premier cool climate wines. Ultra chic and trendy, most producers are, small and boutique with an emphasis on high quality, the region is famed for classy examples of classic Bordeaux varietals. A region already established as one of Australia`s finest, but still young in global terms, there is still much potential to be unleashed.

Producer

Established in 1982, Lenton Brae is a small family-owned, boutique Margaret River wine producer based in the prized sub region of Wilyabrup. Bruce Tomlinson, an Architect was the original owner and purchased the site, starting the project with an aim of being modern and innovative, planting 19 different clones and varieties. The estates vines now date up to 40 years old are all based in the Wilyabrup vineyards which has a unique maritime microclimate. In 2009 the highly esteemed critic James Halliday rated the Lenton Brae as one of the best wineries in the Margaret River. The estate is committed to the environment, their viticultural practices are farmed sustainably.
Tasting Notes
This is the Margaret Rivers only Pinot Blanc, from vineyards in Wilyabrup closest to the coast, giving a mineral and saline edge. Approximately half of the juice is racked into French puncheons where wild fermentation is encouraged and the rest fermented in steel to preserve varietal character. Battonage then occurs weekly and the wine is left on the lees for texture. Floral notes and flavours of tangerine, lychee and lime zest are wrapped in vanilla and a fleshy textured mid palate. The finish is fresh with a slate like minerality edge.
Food
Thai-inspired cuisines with delicate spice would be a perfect match with this wine.
