Region

Wine production labeled as South East Australia origin can include grapes grown in the states of NSW, South Australia and Victoria. This is necessary as the important grapegrowing districts on the Murray River can straddle more than one state boundary. Regional blending also allows a winemaker the flexibility of resources to maintain consistent quality. This regional inter-blending allows the luxury of fusing various grape varieties and styles to produce Australian wines that showcase the archetypal Aussie style, brash and big on fruit with a rich finish on the palate.

Producer

The Impressionist series are wines specifically chosen by our team of buyers for their quality and finesse. These wines are designed to be complemented by stunning artwork. The Impressionist label is inspired by Lake Bumbunga, South Australia. The lake is known to change colour from pink, to white, to blue, depending on the salinity of the water throughout the year. At times of high salinity, algae produces beta-carotene pigment, which has the effect of making the lake look pink. Lake Bumbunga is made up of three salt pans, inspiring the graphic elements by using watercolour and sea salt. As sustainability is something very close to our hearts here at Ellis, these wines have been shipped in the most environmentally friendly way and bottled at a carbon minus bottling facitiy.
Tasting Notes
This is the quintessential Aussie style of Shiraz coming out of South Eastern Australia. Made and fermented entirely in stainless steel to keep pure varietal character. With a powerful nose full of inviting blackcurrant and blackberry aromas on the nose. The palate is smooth and soft with juicy black fruit flavours and a hint of spicy pepper. Soft tannnins give structure to the wine which has a long and rich finish.
Food
Barbecued meats, spicy sausages, pasta with ragu sauce, Thai red curries, pumpkin and roasted vegetables.
