Region

The Languedoc is a vast region stretching across much of the south and Mediterranean with large volume of IGP wine within the distinct areas of l`Aude, Gard and Hérault and also well known appellations such as Minervois, Corbières, Pic Saint Loup and Fitou. It’s history dates back to the Greeks and Romans as well as monastaries in the Middle Ages. The Languedoc experiences Mediterranean climate with high levels of sunshine and warmth with low rainfall which are all favourable for grape growing. A wide range of grape varieties are grown including Syrah, Grenache and Carignan and the local variety piquepoul making a range of styles of red, white and rosé wines.

Producer

Domaine Auriol was founded by Claude Vialade who is the daughter of the visionary winemaker Jean Vialade, who led the way in organic farming in the 1970s during his tenure at co-operative Ribaute Winery becoming the first in Europe to switch entirely to organic. Claude follows her fathers footsteps and is devoted to farm the vineyards in the most respectful way to the environment. In the 90s she formed Domaine Auriol which originated at the roots of the Alaric Mountains in Corbieres but now they have extended their project and hold 1500 hectares across the South of France.
Tasting Notes
This Cuvee is composed of Grenache Blanc, blended with Roussanne which come from two different vineyards, the first on the hillside and the other on the plains near Corbieres. The grapes are harvested at night for freshness. Grapes are destemmed and then see a pre-fermentation maceration for texture and fermented at a lower temperature which develops the pure fruit character. The wine has fresh aromas of white flowers, lemons and stone fruits such as peach with an oily richness from the Roussanne on the palate that Is followed by a lovely crisp finish from the refreshing acidity.
Food
Serve chilled either on its own or as an accompaniment to summer salads, prawns, trout, thai inspired chicken or vegetable stir fry.
