Region

Volcanic soils and a maritime influence combine to impart a distinct elegance and mineral character upon the island`s wines. Notable for its range of local varieties with Nero d`Avola and Nerello Mascalese making reliable, fleshy red wines, whilst Catarratto, Grillo and Inzolia yield surprisingly well balanced and flavourful white wines. You will also find the more recognised grapes of Syrah and Chardonnay performing really well in this warm Mediterranean climate. However, it is the uniquely rich and mineral influenced dessert wines that are perhaps Sicily`s greatest contribution to the wine world, from Marsala to Moscato di Pantelleria and Malvasia.

Producer

Born from a partnership between Cantina Orsogna cooperative and BioGaia, a biodynamic Sicilian farmer collective. LunaGaia labels are a visual homage to L`Opera dei Pupi Siciliana (the Sicilian Puppet Opera), a Sicilian storytelling tradition & UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The wines tell the story of the Italian Epic poem "Orlando Furioso" by Ludovico Ariosto.
Tasting Notes
This Sicillian variety is a crossing of Catarratto and Zibibbo. Grillo is almost exclusively grown in western Sicily, famous for its use in the production of Marsala wine. `Agramante` is named for the king of Afica who was the fiercest opponent of Charlemagne in the "Orlando Furioso" epic poem. The label depicts Orlando at Charlemagne`s court, protecting Paris from siege. This wine opens up with lovely aromas of citrus blossom, sage and white stone fruit. Medium bodied on the palate with notes of peach, apple and tropical hints of dried pineapple. Perfectly balanced with a refreshing citrus acidity.
Food
Perfect partner of risottos, chicken dishes and roasted vegetable salads with goats cheese.
