Region

On the eastern limit of Bordeaux as a large region neighbouring St Emilion, the Castillon has varied soils including some chalk and limestone and therefore favours Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

Producer

Château Picoron, located within the Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation in southwest France, was established in the 16th century. In 2015 it was purchased by Sydney based Australian couple Glenda and Frank Kalyk. The Kalyk family are on a mission to produce hand made wines which are both high quality and great value, expressing the true heritage of the Bordeaux region and its traditional grape varieties. The estate is currently in conversion to organic.
Tasting Notes
Mon Nom is designed to express the terroir of Castillon. This early harvest Merlot from the single plot `l`eglise` was slowly cold fermented to preserve freshness and aged in stainless steel tanks. The palate is expressive, with notes of juicy ripe plum, fresh cherries, a velvetty texture with hints of dried herbs on the finish.
Food
Great match for spicy foods and tomato based stews.
Media
Perfect with ratatouille or cheese boards.
