Region

This region, meaning `lower Austria` lies on the fertile Danube plain to the west of Vienna. Here there are a number of different regions, such as Wagram, Wachau, Kremstal and Kamptal, producing quality dry wines, mainly from the Riesling and Gruner Veltliner grape varieties. The Kamptal wine growing region, the area around StraB, in the Strasser Valley, traces back its origins of cultivating plants thousands of years with vines having been planted for hundreds of years. During medieval times, monastries and the nobility owned vineyards in this area.

Producer

A family run winery who can trace their winemaking roots back to the 17th century. Nicolaus Kemetner was first mentioned in records and his son Johannes was named as `Vinitor in Etsdorf` in 1666. The family`s custom seal dates back to 1741 which is now the symbol for the winery and appears on every label. They have been certified organic since 2008, all grapes are hand harvested and the pruning and harvest is guided by the phases of the moon. They feel that as they work with and rely on nature every day, it is their responisbility to respect and nuture it and this careful consideration is part of everything they do, from tending the vines to making the wines resulting in high quality wines year after year.
Tasting Notes
This natural Gruner Veltliner is made without the addition of any chemicals or preservatives. The wine is aged for 2 years in stainless steel tanks before being released unfiltered. The result is a complex Gruner Veltliner, with notes of green apple, pepper, aniseed and a touch of fresh ginger.
Food
Pair with thai green curries or fish cakes with pink peppercorns.
