Region

The Southern Rhone is home to many famous appellations with a great variety of soils and microclimates, though in general sees ideal growing conditions that are warm and dry, with the Mistral wind proving a defining feature. Grenache forms the backbone of southern Rhône blends, including Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and Vacqueyras. With a range of varieties grown, the region sees a range of styles produced from quality red and white wines to the aromatic dessert wine Muscat de Beaumes de Venise.

Producer

Domaine de la Présidente is a family estate located in the South Rhône Valley, in the municipality of Sainte Cécile les Vignes near Avignon, the capital city of Côtes du Rhône. The vineyards of the estate are located in the appellation areas of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes du Rhône Villages Cairanne, Côtes du Rhône Villages and Côtes du Rhône. The 150 hectares of vineyards are planted in limestone clay soils typical of the region, and they benefit from the Mediterranean climate including the sun and the wind, called le Mistral, which blows from north to south through the Rhodanien corridor, helping to protect the vineyard.
Tasting Notes
Made from a typical Rhone blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Mouvedre. The vines range from 30-60 years old on pebbley, red clay soils. The wine is a beautiful ruby colour, with red fruits and cocoa on the nose. The palate is rich and smooth with kirsh, brambles and notes of spice and vanilla from 6 months ageing in medium toast oak barrels.
Food
Perfect with red meats such as beef or lamb.
