Region

Touraine, as a region, includes the spectrum of wines from fresh, well defined varietal Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay and Malbec to Vouvray. It offers dry, sweet and sparkling white wines made from Chenin Blanc and the regions of Chinon and Bourgueil for red and rosé. The red wines of Touraine are largely produced from Cabernet Franc. Recent warm vintages and improved viticultural practices have resulted in many surprisingly concentrated yet supple red wines.

Producer

Christophe Boutet took over the family estate Domaine Boutet Saulnier in 1997 being entrusted the business by his father. In 2011, Christophe and his wife have practiced sustainable agriculture on their 12 hectares of vineyards and are currently converting their land to be organic. A portion of their grapes are also grown under biodynamic viticulture. The domains vineyards are located just east of the city of Tours in the small Vouvray appellation, neibouring the famous Domain Huet.
Tasting Notes
Located to the northeast of the town of Tours. This dry silky white wine is made from a selected harvest of the ripest Chenin Blanc grapes avoiding any botrytis to retain an intense and pure fruit. This lean Vouvray Sec is partly fermented in oak barrel to contribute a subtle vanilla character that enhances and mingles with ripe melon and pear flavours which are balanced by a refreshing citrus acidity.
Food
The acidity and fruit character makes a good match with Asian cuisine, dishes that include root vegetables and soups with chilli.
