Region

Bordeaux Supérieur is an appellation which covers the whole of the Bordeaux region, it is a title in its own right, specifically covering both red and white wines. It is classified when it has achieved a higher natural level of alcohol and lower yields than basic Bordeaux. Bordeaux lies in the southwest of France and in general has a moderate maritime climate with varying levels of influence from the cool Atlantic Ocean and the Rivers Garonne, Dordogne and the Gironde Estuary. It is a region that sees a range of challenges bringing variety each vintage.

Producer

Château Maledan was built in the 18th century and was bought by the Brunot family in 1920. Since 1997 the fourth generation - Vincent Brunot - manages the family wine estates. He is a trained Agriculture Engineer and has qualified as a Winemaker of the Faculty of Bordeaux. Since taking over he has brought about much modernisation in the vineyards and achieved Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) sustainable status in 2019.
Tasting Notes
The vineyard covers 13 hectares and is located on a plateau 10km east of Bordeaux in the Entre Deux Mers region - between the Dordogne and Garonne. Made from 97% Merlot with a dash of Cabernet Franc, this is a ripe, plummy claret with juicy black fruits and an earthiness that gives it a well rounded structure.
Food
Perfect with roast beef or venison.
