Region

Saint-Émilion and Pomerol sit next to each other on the right bank of Bordeaux. Saint-Émilion is home to some of the most prestigious wines in the world such as Cheval Blanc and Angelus. Only red wine qualifies for the appellation and is predominately made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Pomerol is located in the east of the Bordeaux region, near Saint-Émilion. While most appellations are named after a village or town within their boundaries, Pomerol has no such epicentre. Pomerol is an 800ha gravel bank with boasts the famous names of Petrus and Le Pin and produces wines made predominantly out of Merlot.

Producer

Château Louvie is located in the district of Saint Laurent des Combes, which is an area of rolling hills, just west of the town of St Emilion. The vineyards which are farmed sustainably are planted on the typical clay, sand and limestone soils of the St Emilion region where these beautiful vineyards have an average age of 35 years. The estate belongs to Christian Veyry, who also owns Chateau Veyry in the Cotes de Castillon. A winegrower`s son, he was the superstar wine maker at Pomerol`s Ch Gazin and now consults for numerous famous châteaux in Bordeaux and Cahors.
Tasting Notes
Chateau Louvie vineyards are planted on the plateaus and slopes of St Emilion where the average age of the vines are 35 years. Following harvest, fermentation occurs in thermo-regulated steel vats after which the wine is racked into barrel, ageing for 12-18 months of which is 25% new French oak. Deep garnet colour and pronounced nose of ripe berry fruits and vanilla oak. The blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc creates an elegant style in keeping with the appellation with a soft and smooth mouthfeel. Supple and charming with plenty of berry and plum fruits combined with woodland scents and a long savoury finish.
Food
Ideal with roasted game served with wild rice and stuffing or prime rib steak.
