Region

This beautiful region is situated 200Km south of Paris and extends west along the high reaches of the Loire River. This is a cold climate region making top quality wines from Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir and includes the following famous villages; Sancerre, Pouilly Sur Loire, Quincy and Menetou-Salon. The soils have a high percentage of flint and limestone, and this results in crisp, aromatic whites and perfumed, elegant rose and reds. Littered with artisan producers, the best single Domaine wines are made in small quantities and are of top quality.

Producer

The dynamic François Crochet has made wines in New Zealand and Bordeaux, and now uses his broad experience wisely. The estate consists of some 10 hectares, mostly planted on the limestone slopes surrounding the prestigious village of Bué. To make Sancerre that measures with the best of the appellation, Francois pays a great deal of attention to the quality of his grapes. At harvest he handpicks and this results in expressive wines with the distinctively pungent, flinty characters that the terroir delivers. Pale straw in colour it offers piercing aromas of grapefruit, fresh cut grass, white flowers, gooseberry and minerals with notes reminiscent of the local cheese `Crotin de Chavignol` in the background. Time on lees before release gives the wine a lovely textural mouthfeel while a straight line of crunchy acid gives structure and focus. This is what textbook Sauvignon Blanc is all about.
Tasting Notes
Francois Crochet is really making a name for himself in the Sancerre region by consistently crafting delicious and well balanced wines with great character and terroir. Made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown on the limestone slopes of Bué, this is a classic with a lovely grassy aroma and well balanced ripe flavours. Whilst exuberant to start, with citrus flavours, there is excellent balance and full sweet fruit on the finish.
Food
Ideal with lighter meat dishes like chicken and pork. Great with goats cheese, smoked fish, salads, shellfish and fish.
