Time really does fly… Beaujolais Nouveau Day is back! On Thursday 20th November 2025, the world will once again raise a glass to the freshest, fruitiest wine of the year.

What is Beaujolais Nouveau Day?

Born in the rolling hills of Beaujolais (between Mâcon and Lyon at the southern limit of Burgundy), this festivity started as winemakers celebrated the end of harvest with a first taste of their brand-new wine. What began as a local tradition quickly went global – with races to deliver the first bottles by all sorts of methods, hot air balloon, Concorde, even elephants! Now tens of millions of bottles of the new Beaujolais Nouveau vintage are shipped worldwide each season.

What’s in the bottle?

Classic Beaujolais Nouveau Red is made from 100% Gamay, crafted with carbonic maceration and bottled just weeks after harvest. The result? A juicy, vibrant, easy-drinking red that’s all about fun and freshness.

New for 2025!

Alongside the classic red, this year we’re delighted to offer something a little different: an unusual Beaujolais Nouveau Blanc, made entirely from 100% Chardonnay - a fresh twist on tradition.

À La Votre Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2025 by Jean-Michel Dupre (12%ABV)

Jean-Michel Dupré’s vineyard is perched above the village of Beaujeu in the heart of Beaujolais, a picturesque wine region, just south of Burgundy and north of Lyon. When he inherited the estate from his father, it covered just 2ha. Since then, Jean-Michel has converted old farm buildings into a winery and acquired well-located plots in Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Villages, Morgon, and Régnié. He is passionate about the environment, practising organic viticulture and minimises added sulphites in the winemaking. Plot by plot, he has been working towards full organic certification; while the Nouveau is not yet certified, it is produced using organic methods.

Organic Bro's Chardo Chardonnay Nouveau 2025 by Laurent Gauthier (12.5% ABV)

The Gauthier family have been making wine in Morgon since 1834, passing the estate down through generations to Laurent Gauthier, who now runs it with his sons, Jason and Elie. Their artisan domaine covers 11ha: 9ha in Grand Cras, one of Morgon’s most prized climats, known for its schist soils, and 2ha in Côte du Py, the appellation’s most famous slope with its distinctive blue granite. Committed to sustainable farming, they limit chemical use to encourage biodiversity and are now certified organic. With a philosophy of minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar, the family produces authentic, characterful natural wines.

This year, they have created a fresh interpretation of Beaujolais Nouveau - a white version made from 100% Chardonnay, vinified using carbonic maceration. Elie, who leads the winemaking for this release, was named Best Young Winemaker of Burgundy a few years ago.

Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2025 is shipped specifically for customers on a pre-ordered basis. After Friday 31st October 2025 Ellis Wines will be unable to make cancellations or changes and orders placed for Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2025 will be invoiced accordingly.
