Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2019 ‘Vignes de 1940’ Sans Sulfite Jean-Michel Dupré

Jean-Michel Dupré is the fifth generation winemaker, now assisted by daughter Cindy, on the outskirts of Beaujeu, the market town that gives its name to the region. His Beaujolais has always been made with minimal intervention to preserve the natural vibrant fruit character. This year he is making a Natural Beaujolias Villages Nouveau for Ellis Wines without the addition of sulphites or chemical processes; a young wine is the perfect wine to enjoy the ripe and flattering juicy fruit character.

It is being made from an old vine parcel of organically farmed vines planted in 1940 in a plot of Beaujolais Villages that commands a beautiful view across to the church towers of Régnié and the hill of Brouilly. The 2019 harvest in Beaujolais began on September 10th, which is the usual date compared with some exceptionally early harvests in recent hot summers. This year the Gamay grapes hold great promise, healthy, fully ripened and with the necessary natural acidity to balance the sugars. The hail of August 18th damaged some of the vines in the south of Beaujolais with a rain of violent ‘Golden Stones’ but not Jean-Michel who is located further north in the Cru ‘Régnié’.

This Natural Beaujolais Villages 2019 wine will be suitable for Vegans and Vegetarians.
