In what feels like no time at all, another year has passed by, with Beaujolais Nouveau Day fast approaching, once again! As is traditional, this year’s wine will be released on the third Thursday of November, which falls on 21st November.

What is Beaujolais Nouveau?

What once began as a local celebration in the Beaujolais region of France to mark the end of harvest, with winemakers drinking the early release wine, has now become a globally recognised event. In the past the phenomenon became an exciting race, using elephants, Concorde, hot air balloons and sports cars in order to be the first to release their wine. Now tens of millions of bottles of the new Beaujolais Nouveau vintage are shipped worldwide each season.

Beaujolais Nouveau wine is made from 100% Gamay grapes. Whole bunches are placed in tanks to undergo carbonic fermentation with the natural yeasts on the grape skins. The free-run juice and the pressed juice is then blended together and bottled 6-8 weeks after harvest, resulting in this distinctive fresh and vibrant wine.

Located in the south of Beaujolais, Jean-Baptiste Duperray joined his father in 2013 to work on their estate, where they practice sustainable farming and are HVE certified, demonstrating their dedication to environmentally-friendly agriculture.

Jean-Baptiste states that he believes in their grape variety, Gamay, and with the same values and vision he shares with his father, they use to create well-balanced wines.

The fresh and flattering style of a youthful Beaujolais Villages Nouveau is perfect for a Natural wine, which is made without the addition of sulphites or chemical processes.

We will make all reasonable efforts to ship and deliver Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2024 in time for the release date on Thursday 21st November 2024. Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2024 is shipped specifically for customers on a pre-ordered basis. After Friday 1st November 2024 Ellis Wines will be unable to make cancellations or changes and orders placed for Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2024 will be invoiced accordingly.
