Kellerei Kaltern
Kellerei Kaltern is a winery on the edge of two worlds and two cultures. The 400 members of the co-operative manage a vineyard surface area totalling just 300 hectares high in the Alto Adige region of the Alps, making pure, limpid wines with great mineral backbone and essential appeal.
On the shore of Lake Kaltern the delicate green waves of ‘pergole’ vines are mirrored by the calm water; a Mediterranean idyll nestled in an Alpine landscape. Viticulture here is a long tradition and a source of pride. The attention, love and intelligence lavished on the rows is the sort usually reserved for gardens and during the summer the plots do in fact resemble tiny paradises of light and shade, sheltered, idyllic nooks where the bunches of grapes slowly ripen, releasing their increasingly intense fragrances.
