Region

In the northwest of Italy lies the unique low alpine region of Piedmont (or Piemonte), which means `at the foot of the mountains`. Weather influences come from the Apennine Mountains and the Alps The region includes the small and prestigious hillside wine towns of Barolo, Barbaresco, Asti and Gavi, where a diverse variety of well-known wine styles originate. Some of Italy`s most revered and expensive red wines come from the Nebbiolo grape, grown alongside Barbera, Dolcetto and for white wines Moscato and Cortese.

Producer

The Rivetto family has been established in the Piedmont region since 1902, and it remains very much a family concern to this day. The family are based in Lirano and own various vineyard sites between the rolling hills of Sinio and the historic town of Alba, which are planted with the noble Nebbiolo variety that make both classic and modern styles of Barolo. Enrico Rivetto, who is passionate about the environment has converted the land to follow biodynamic principles and the wines are now certified Demeter biodynamic as of the 2019 vintage.
Tasting Notes
The Rivetto estate sits 400m above sea level, occupying 89 acres that face the spectacular Serralunga d’Alba Castle and the charmingly picturesque village. The vineyards extended from the southwestward along the highest hilltop. The land has been prized for many generations. This ‘baby Barolo’ is made from Nebbiolo grapes from selected sites in the Lange giving a medium bodied, with garnet highlights and a wonderful scent of ripe prunes. On the palate it is pleasant with soft tannins. This is a really well-balanced wine, rounded and smooth, and expresses the typical characteristics of the Nebbiolo varietal and its terroir.
Food
Antipasta, pasta putenesca, veal, mixed grilled meats and goats cheese quiche.
