Region

In the southwest of France, Cahors is quite possibly one of the best-known regions for its prolific Malbec (also known as ‘Cot’), as the AOC stipulates the wines must have minimum 70% Malbec in the blend and commonly they contain much more. With a history dating back to the Middle Ages and a nickname of the ‘black wine of Cahors’ due to its deep colour, the name became synonymous with the style of wine. Despite its proximity to the Atlantic it is still relatively warm and dry ensuring concentrated styles. Though the region is known for its traditional styles, many winemakers are also pushing the boundaries and experimenting to create lighter styles.

Producer

People are at the heart of the domain, all dedicated to caring for their 30 hectares of vines. They pride themselves with their organic farming with both the intention to enhance the quality of their wines obtaining the most tasteful expression of terroirs, but also due to their personal desire to be more environmental. The vines are located on the south-facing 3rd terraces of the appellation at an altitude of 200m. Wines from the estate are a combination of powerful and fineness given by the soils mostly clayey-siliceous nature with pebbles.
Tasting Notes
This Cahors is made with 100% Malbec grapes which are fermented in both steel and concrete tanks, with 15 days of maceration for full fruit flavours and a smooth structure. The wine then spends 18-20 months in concrete (70%) and the remainder in large barrels. A welcoming bouquet of cassis and pepper, evolving towards ripe fruits and hazelnuts. Malbec benefits from the rich soils and microclimate to reach optimum ripeness creating a juicy and crisp palate, due to fresh acidity and well-integrated tannins.
