Region

Penedes is the coastal Catalan region in north eastern Spain around the vibrant city of Barcelona. The region is dominated by the Pyrenees to the north, which forms a narrow coastal strip. The mild climate is influenced by the cooling Mediterranean, with a more continental and hotter climate further inland, where the vineyards are affected by the altitude, which afford cooler climatic influences. The region is most famed for producing Cava sparkling wine, meaning `cellar` in Catalan.

Producer

Josep Masachs Llorach, owned vineyards in Vilafranca del Penedès as early as 1920. During this time he was one of the pioneers of the area producing still wines, his son took over his father’s hobby and made it his profession and turned his house, known to everyone as Cal Cabanyes, into his manufacturing center in the 1950s. Nowadays, the fourth generation of the family has arrived with an open and innovative mindset. Under the watchful eye of Joan Masachs and led by Alex Ruíz Masachs – hardworking, curious and creative with extensive experience in enology and global sales – family values have been reinterpreted to transmit them through more environmentally friendly products.
Tasting Notes
This is an organic Cava blended with Trepat, Garnacha and Monastrell, made in the traditional method with a second fermentation in the bottles and 14 months of age on its fine lees. The juice is in contact with the skins for three hours to macerate and extract its beautiful pale pink hue. Lovely balance of varietal aromas such as raspberry, figs and delicate floral notes with fresh bread from the lees. Very fresh and light on the palate. Good balance between the acidity and the fruit concentration. With a smooth creamy mousse on the finish.

It is a fantastic choice to serve alongside asian dishes, seafood, mushrooms, cheeses, and even desserts.
