Region

The combination of sand and gravel soils found in this area of southern Médoc are ideal to support both Cabernet Sauvignon and a high proportion of Merlot. The Margaux appellation always produces wines with a fragrant bouquet, supple texture and feminine softness.

Producer

The Château La Tour de Mons is a single block vineyard, located in the northern part of the Margaux appellation, on the banks of the Garonne, as the best Médoc Crus. The origin of the château dates back to the 13th century. Amongst its illustrious owners was Pierre de Mons, who acquired the property in 1623 and gave it his name. The estate belonged to his lineage until the end of the 20th century. Since 2004, it belongs to CA Grands Crus, a branch of the Credit Agricole Group, which bought, among others, the Château Grand-Puy Ducasse, 5th Classified Growth in Pauillac and the Château Meyney in Saint-Estèphe.
Tasting Notes
The Château La Tour de Mons is a single block vineyard, located in the northern part of the Margaux appellation, on the banks of the Garonne on gravel with clay and limestone subsoils. Made from a traditional Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2016 vintage has an expressive nose of ripe black fruits. The palate is smooth and generous with ripe mulberry, cocoa, sandalwood and a slight cigar smokiness. Well structured with chewy tannins and a balanced finish.
Food
Serve with grilled or roasted lamb, fine cuts of steak, game stews and well flavoured cheeses.
