Region

Bordeaux Supérieur is an appellation which covers the whole of the Bordeaux region, it is a title in its own right, specifically covering both red and white wines. It is classified when it has achieved a higher natural level of alcohol and lower yields than basic Bordeaux. Bordeaux lies in the southwest of France and in general has a moderate maritime climate with varying levels of influence from the cool Atlantic Ocean and the Rivers Garonne, Dordogne and the Gironde Estuary. It is a region that sees a range of challenges bringing variety each vintage.

Producer

A superb 12th century property located on one of the highest points of the rolling `Entre-Deux-Mers` wine region of Bordeaux, near the town of Langon. The estate covers 45 hectares on clay-limestone soils, allowing good drainage as well as exposure to the sun and cool breezes. The property has recently been restored and revived by the Sichel family, owners of Chateau Palmer and Chateau d`Angludet.
Tasting Notes
Produced by the Sichel family from a revived estate in the Entre-Deux-Mers, the deep garnet red Argadens is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, giving the wine good weight and firm structure from the Cabernet and a lovely ripe raisiny fruit of the Merlot grape. Aromas of cassis abound on the nose, quickly followed by hints of chocolate, spice and elegant oaky notes. A sweetness on the palate is enhanced with plummy fruit flavours and a creamy smooth finish balanced by fresh and fine grained tannins.
Food
Perfect accompaniment to beef stews, cottage pie, roast pheasant and other game, as well as mature cheeses.
