A is for... Azabache, our Rioja producer with whom we have partnered for nearly twenty years. Meet the lovely Juan Velilla at our tasting.
B is for... Blind wine competition, always a popular part of our tasting. Take part in the foyer at Vintner's Hall.
C is for... Cava from @Mont_Marcal who has taken the decision to vintage their wonderful Extremarium Cava. Taste this new cuvee at our tasting...
D is for... David Bruce Wines - a stunning premium Chardonnay and two equally stunning premium Pinot Noirs from Russian River and Sonoma.
E is for English wines, both still and sparkling. In these changing times, we should support our own growers and list their wines and fly the English flag.
F is for... Furmint with Chateau Pajzos being a superb example and can be found on the Ellis Wines Selection table.
G is for... Gamay, the principle grape varietal to be found in our selection from our new Beaujolais producers.
H is for… Hacienda el Ternero, another of our Rioja producers. ‘Ternero’ is Spanish for ‘calf’ which inspired their label design. Come and meet Julia at Vintners' Hall.
I is for... Italy. We have 10 producers attending our tasting from Italy. From sparkling to sweet, there is something for everyone.
J is for... JB Adam. J-B Adam is one of the oldest estates in Alsace, with 19 ha of organic vineyard in the Haut Rhin village of Ammerschwir.
K is for... Kaltern, our wonderful producer from Alto Adige. The 400 members of the co-operative manage a vineyard surface area totalling just 300 hectares high in the Alto Adige region of the Alps.
L is for… Laibach. It will be Francois van Zyl's first Ellis Wines tasting, so come along and say hello!
M is for... Mag 14 the new cuvees from @arlenoble. Wine from the 2014 vintage, in magnum, are added to wines made from 2017 onwards.
N is for… New Wines. On show at our tasting will be a range of our new wines hand selected by our buying team. Be sure to give them a try...
O is for... Orcia Leone Rosso from @donatellacinellicolombini's Estate in Trequanda. A blend of Sangiovese and Merlot this wine has won a host of awards and received 90 points in Wine Enthusiast.
P is for... @paulett_wines from Clare Valley, Australia who have been at every one of the Ellis tastings. Neil makes award winning wines that have been rated as outstanding in a recent Decanter tasting.
Q is for … Gordon and Vanessa Quinn, owners of @badachrodistillery from Gairloch in Scotland. They make a small-batch craft gin with botanicals and ingredients foraged from the surrounding area including the unusual bog myrtle.
R is for... Riesling - this increasing popular 'noble' grape variety. We have some great examples from Germany, Alsace, Australia and New Zealand. Try them all with our 'All roads lead to Riesling' wine walk.
S is for... @winerysonberk. The Decanter Platinum Award Winning 'Straw' wine, or raisin wine, is a wine made from grapes that have been dried to concentrate their juice. The result is similar to that of the ice wine process, but suitable for warmer climates.
T is for... Tempranillo, the Rioja region's pre-eminent grape variety. Temprano means 'early' in Spanish and it is the first red grape to be harvested in the region followed by Garnacha.
U is for... Uruguay with @pisanowines being the top producer and exporter in the country. They take the Tannat grape variety & handcraft wines of great structure & complexity. They've even created a sparkling version of this versatile grape. Meet Niko at our tasting.
V is for... Vegan, the word on everybody's lips this January. We have a large selection where no animal or diary products have been used in the making of the wines, making them vegan friendly.
W is for... @wairauriverwines, one of the pioneers of the Marlborough region in New Zealand. We will be showcasing their cool-climate whites and Reserve Pinot Noir.
X is for... Xarel-lo, a key grape in @montmarcal's Extramariam Reserva Cava. The winery recently took the decision to produce a vintage cava and the 2014 edition will be available to taste.
Y is for… Yields in 2018 have recovered well, after a poor harvest in 2017. The Chablis region is much recovered as are other regions in France and Portugal badly hit the previous year.
Z is for... Zibibbo - from the lovely people at Musita. Zibibbo, also known as 'Muscat of Alexandria', is a white grape variety; a member of the Muscat family thought to originate from Egypt and in Sicily and its islands. New to our tasting this year, come and say hello!
