Region

This large region surrounds the city of Santiago and extends from the Andean foothills west to the Pacific coast. Much of the vineyard has been established in the warmer Santiago suburbs and supplied high quality Merlots and Cabernets to the capital. More exciting development is coming from new vineyard plantings in the less accessible coastal land, south of the San Antonio Valley, where coastal fogs prolong ripening and create intense varietal flavours.

Producer

Named after the indiginous Chono tribe, who were described by Darwin as ‘one of the bravest native tribes’, they were well known for having a passion for life and for nature. This passion was the inspiration behind Chono which is a project designed to showcase wines expressive of the region where they thrive the best. Created by Alvaro Espinoza in 2004, Chono wines are carefully selected, single vineyard varietals from some unique terroirs in Chile with the aim of producing wines which focus on quality over quantity.
Tasting Notes
The Maipo Valley is to the east of the Andes mountains and to the west of the Coastal mountains. The complex soils and microclimate of the Maipo valley creates a Cabernet Sauvignon with a distinctive nose of ripe red fruits along with notes of black pepper, coffee and an elegant touch of oak. On the palate it is well structured with soft tannins and a nice balanced acidity leading to a long and pleasant finish.
Food
Perfect when partnered with Beef or barbecued meats.
