Region

The Colchagua Valley is a three hour drive south of Santiago and home to many of Chile`s finest wineries. The region extends from the Andes to the Pacific Coast which allows a variety of wines to be produced. The Andes mountains which dominate the country tower over the and are the water source used to irrigate the vines. The region is renowned for many of the finest Merlots, Cabernets and Carmenère but also in cooler sites Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Producer

The Viña La Playa estate occupies some of Colchagua Valley`s most desirable acreage benefitting from its own unique micro-climate due to the Tinguirrica and Limarí rivers which run through the vineyards. Comprising 600 acres and a $10 million state of the art winery, this excellent producer is owned by the Sutil family who make superb modern fruit-driven wines from grapes sourced entirely from the estate. By entering 1% For the Planet, La Playa Wines committed to donate every year 1% of its net sales to non-profit NGOs that conserve, restore and study the Environment.
Tasting Notes
From the Colchagua Valley in Chile, this is a fresh Chardonnay, 20% has seen fourth use oak barrels. Golden, yellow in appearance, the wine offers fresh tropical fruit aromas of papaya, pineapple and mango combined with floral, vanilla and honeyed notes. It is a fresh, medium-bodied wine with a good structure, balanced by a pleasant and crisp acidity.
Food
Ideal for serving chilled as an aperitif and a good accompaniment for fresh cheese, white meats, fish and seafood, creamy risottos, and lightly spiced oriental dishes.
