Region

The coastal Casablanca Valley stretches west of Santiago to the Pacific Ocean and runs north of the San Antonio Valley. Although Casablanca is further north than much of Chile`s traditional fruit growing regions, it is north of Chile`s Coastal Mountain range and therefore exposed to the cold ocean breezes and mists. Cool climate varieties have established a high reputation here, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir in particular.

Producer

Named after the indiginous Chono tribe, who were described by Darwin as ‘one of the bravest native tribes’, they were well known for having a passion for life and for nature. This passion was the inspiration behind Chono which is a project designed to showcase wines expressive of the region where they thrive the best. Created by Alvaro Espinoza in 2004, Chono wines are carefully selected, single vineyard varietals from some unique terroirs in Chile with the aim of producing wines which focus on quality over quantity.
Tasting Notes
This Pinot Noir comes from an area located only 25 km from the Pacific Ocean. The influence of the Ocean provides perfect conditions for a fresh and aromatic Pinot Noir with great character. This wine shows an intense and fresh nose of red fruits, enriched with spicy notes. On the palate, it is medium bodied with notes of red cherries, sweet spices and a slight bitter chocolate note on the finish.
Food
Serve with moussaka or lasagne.
Media
Awarded 95 points and outstanding in October 2016 issue of Decanter Magazine.
