Region

Saint-Émilion and Pomerol sit next to each other on the right bank of Bordeaux. Saint-Émilion is home to some of the most prestigious wines in the world such as Cheval Blanc and Angelus. Only red wine qualifies for the appellation and is predominately made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Pomerol is located in the east of the Bordeaux region, near Saint-Émilion. While most appellations are named after a village or town within their boundaries, Pomerol has no such epicentre. Pomerol is an 800ha gravel bank with boasts the famous names of Petrus and Le Pin and produces wines made predominantly out of Merlot.

Producer

A superb discovery, and at 1.5 hectares of vineyard this really is a tiny estate (one fifth the size of Petrus even!). Located on clay and limestone soil to the north of the village of St Emilion, the vineyards benefit from an exceptional sunny southern exposition.
Tasting Notes
Rich and rounded, the Merlot fruit shows soft plummy aromas on the nose with a slight pepper note from the Cabernet Franc. Velvety in the mouth with concentrated flavours of ripe plums, blackcurrants and cherries with a distinctive earthy and mineral character on the palate. The medium body of the wine is supported by soft harmonious tannins and a seductive lingering finish.
Food
Roasted meats and game, pot au feu or Beef Wellington.
