Region

A second wine is the term for a premium wine made by an estate that is second only to their Grand Vin. These wines are produced from the same vineyards as the grand vin but at a more accessible price and can be a great introduction to their `older sibling`. In the vineyard and winery, these wines generally receive the same treatment as the grand vin however, the overall blend and maturation are different.

Producer

Chateau Rauzan-Segla was established in 1661 by Pierre des Mesures de Rauzan. The estate is currently producing some of the best wine of the Margaux commune. The sand and gravel soils of the appellation support Cabernet Sauvignon, contributing depth and structure to the wine, whilst a relatively high proportion of Merlot contributes a soft, supple texture.
Tasting Notes
This is the second wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla, an estate that is currently producing some of the best wine of Margaux. 2014 is a beautiful wine and very approachable at the moment. Red and dark fruit aromas with floral and stony mineral hints lead onto a smooth medium-bodied palate with good forward ripe flavours of plum, elderberry and graphite and polished tannins.
Food
Serve alongside roast joints of beef or lamb, haunch of venison, roasted root vegetables and wild mushrooms and well flavoured cheeses.
