Region

The Languedoc is a vast region stretching across much of the south and Mediterranean and is France`s single largest vineyard entity for its Vins de Pays wines. Within the Languedoc lie several distinctly identified Vins de Pays (including the l`Aude, Gard and Hérault) and many generic appellations that maintain traditional local blends and wine styles such as Minervois, Corbières, Pic Saint Loup and Fitou.

Producer

Established under Louis XIII in 1650, the Chateau de Pennautier forms the heart of the Lorgeril estate. The Domaine comprises of 340 hectares, mainly in the Cabardes region of northern Languedoc, close to the medieval city of Carcassonne. Miren and Nicolas de Lorgeril, direct descendants of the first Marquis de Pennautier, are the tenth generation of the family to make wine here.
Tasting Notes
The Minervois is a large natural ampitheatre, facing due south with its back and sides to the Montagne Noire. Made from a blend of Syrah (of which 50% is grown on schist soils and 20% undergoes carbonic maceration), Mourvedre and Grenache. Deep ruby in colour with notes of cherries and pepper on the nose. The palate is full bodied and complex with notes of dried fruits, truffle, chocolate and spice.
Food
Serve with roast duck, venison, lamb and strong cheeses.
